From Kiel to Copenhagen and back

In the second-last week of August, Kieler Yacht-Club and the Royal Danish Yachtclub (KDY) organise the German edition of the Round Sealand long-distance race from Kiel to Copenhagen and back.

On Wednesday evening that week, around 40 to 50 big offshore yachts are at the starting line in front of Kieler Yacht-Club to race from Kiel to Copenhagen. Depending on weather conditions, the course will lead them round either to the North or to the South of the island of Sealand. The sailors feast their arrival in Copenhagen’s Tuborg Marina in front of the KDY’s elegant new club house with a lavish BBQ and prize-giving.

Depending on the size of their yacht as well as on wind und weather conditions, the crews may want to use the next day to explore Copenhagen, the Danish capital. The starting gun for the return race to Kiel will be fired on 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The prize-giving ceremony is held on Sunday in front of the Kieler Yacht-Club’s club house in Strande.
